Senior Level Backend Developer

The Role

We are looking for a back-end developer who is a critical thinker and keeps core to all of their development activities the importance of robust, reliable and re-usable code.

You will join our creative studio building marketing products and tools for all the major movie studios as well as contribute to our Showtimes Platform and other various projects . A core component of the role will be developing backend services to ingest a wide variety of data types, ensuring correctness and consistency across multiple upstream services.

You will be key player in the ongoing company infrastructure transformation. You should be self-motivated, care for the quality of your work and love to think big, while getting things done. We’re looking for vision as well as a can-do attitude.

Ideally you will have minimum 4 years experience working commercially as a back-end developer. Experience working alongside other coders (front-end and back-end) is a bonus and you should be able to follow direction and adapt quickly to a team dynamic. The role is a full-time position based in our London studio.

Your Skills

You should have a keen interest in keeping up-to-date with modern coding practises, particularly with respect to JavaScript ES6, Node.JS, and at least one other static typed language.

Your Responsibilities

  • Design and develop highly-scalable servers/storage/service/controller solutions that serve millions of users per day on AWS, as well as drive UI.
  • Integrate with 3rd party data providers, supporting new data types and development of ingestion agents.
  • Design and build APIs.
  • Maintenance of existing MicroService infrastructure.
  • Implementation and maintenance of security and data protection systems.
  • Setting up continuous delivery and automatic release pipelines.
  • Work tightly with product departments, keeping to precise timelines.
  • Collaborate and mentor in a culture that promotes passion in technology and constant learning.
  • Go-to expert for delegated areas of the codebase.
  • First line support for data queries and data issues.
  • AWS administration and monitoring.

Essential Experience

  • Ability to write clean, maintainable, self documenting and performant code, with accompanying unit tests.
  • Experience and evidence of building scalable and reliable server-side web applications, back-end systems, information retrieval applications, creating/maintaining MicroService architecture and networking.
  • Experience with Amazon Web Services.
  • Experience with security measures in backend systems.
  • Experience in object-oriented and functional programming.
  • Experience of writing highly optimised Database queries using relational databases.
  • Good knowledge of REST
  • Evidence of working with algorithms, design patterns, data-structures, concurrency, performance optimization for large-scale and high-availability distributed cloud architecture.
  • Commercial exposure of end to end full software development life cycle and agile/best practice methodologies.
  • Experience using task management tools/software.

  • Showtimes Platform: which powers most of the major movie websites across the world boasting all the major movie studios as our clients.
  • Creative Builds: which can range from projects making interactive music videos to projecting tweets on the houses of parliament.

When bolstered by the very diverse and strong team we can adapt to anything thrown at it, from technical, interactive builds to large scale video productions.

Our platform gets 2.2 million visits a week and has 2 component parts, the all-movie destination (http://movies.powster.com) and the individual movie pages ex:(Star Wars, Ant-Man, The Martian, etc). This is a really exciting time to be joining the team as we are in the midst of launching a lot of new features and capabilities within our product and you will be able to contribute ideas to this product plan and help to build it out! You’ll be working on building out tons of exciting new movie websites, developing the showtimes platform further, and taking it to the next level for major movie studios internationally.
